May, I-AQUAS, UPM Assists Omadal Island Community in Seaweed Cultivation through Collaboration with Yayasan Hasanah and Malaysia Society for Harm Reduction (MHSR)
Semporna, Sabah, May 3 - A delegation from I-AQUAS, led by Prof. Dr. Muta Harah Zakaria and Dr. Nur Leena Wong Wai Sin, recently visited the Women’s Association of Omadal (WAPO) on Omadal Island. The purpose of this visit was to provide guidance and exchange ideas regarding seaweed cultivation activities in the area.
This project is expected to contribute to the local economy by empowering women within the community. Seaweed cultivation represents a promising endeavor that can benefit the local population, particularly in terms of economic development and environmental sustainability. Women are actively involved in various aspects of seaweed cultivation, including planting, maintenance, and harvesting. With guidance from I-AQUAS and UPM, these women can acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to carry out these activities effectively.
